Here is an excellent PDF detailing a lot of great information about the Church's stand on who the Lamanites are versus the current scientific opinion of the origins of the Native Americans.
It might sound controversial, but you can see how the Church really has said for years the Lamanites were the ancestors of the Native Americans. Even quotes from the Book of Mormon are used. I just don't see how Mormons can spin this in their minds, seriously. For me to believe in the BoM I would need to have a serious case of denial.

You're absolutely right. Only a fool would believe in the Book of Mormon.
But then again, that's just exactly what the Apostle Paul encourages us to be: fools.
"Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness."
(1 Cor. 3:18-19.)
Did he really say that ? Or did the early Catholic church say he did so they had an excuse to dismiss intellectuals or persuade people to follow them on faith only ?
If this world was created by God, then any wisdom in it is also from God. If there is a God, he created the many wonderful things we discover with science that many modern religions completely ignore or actively fight to dismiss.
Agreed. We just need to remember that our heads can be misled just as easily as our hearts.
Which is exactly why we should not rely on only our emotions or only our brains.
